Meet Joan

Hi, I’m Joan Registered Manager at Beechcroft, I have built my career over the past 17 years at Beechcroft Care Homes, progressing from Care Assistant to Senior Carer, Deputy Manager, and now Registered Care Manager. This journey has shaped the leader I am today — fair, transparent, and deeply grounded in the realities of frontline care.

My leadership style is centred on respect, openness, and leading by example. I strongly believe that staff are the foundation of high-quality care, and I make it a priority to listen to their views, involve them in decision-making, and value their insight. Because I began my career delivering hands-on care, I understand the pressures and challenges they face, and I would never ask anyone to do a task I would not do myself.

I foster a culture where staff feel supported, heard, and empowered to deliver excellent person-centred care. I maintain high standards through clear communication, consistent expectations, and a commitment to fairness. My approach builds trust, strengthens teamwork, and ensures that both staff and residents feel safe, respected, and valued.

As a Registered Manager, I combine strong leadership with compassion, accountability, and a genuine commitment to continuous improvement. I am dedicated to creating an environment where staff can thrive and residents receive the highest standard of care.

Looking after residents is only one part of my role. I believe that families and friends are essential partners in understanding each resident’s history, preferences, and needs. Building these relationships helps me gain a fuller picture of the person and ensures truly person-centred care. I am committed to being available when needed and remain on call 24/7 to support residents, relatives, and staff. This approach reflects my belief that high-quality care is built on communication, trust, and strong connections with everyone involved in a resident’s life.

Outside of work, I enjoy relaxing by dining out or entertaining at home with my husband of 50 years and our friends. I also take great pleasure in organising social activities for staff, which always receive an excellent response and help build team morale. I have a strong interest in researching local history, which I find both grounding and rewarding. These interests reflect my belief in community, connection, and creating positive experiences for others — values that also shape my approach as a leader.
